The Woods are Lovely, Dark, and Deep group show currently on view at
Asya Geisberg Gallery thru September 10th. The woods not to mention the darkness,"the unknown"and/or the "foreboding" feeling that imminent danger or harm is in close proximity is a feeling hard to shake; both being in the woods and especially at night can be a very scary place to be in. The woods are often synonymous with magic (both
black and
white),
paganism,
necromancy, mysticism, supernatural, fairies/folklore and evil doing. This show impressed and impacted me both at the same time; I'm a sucker for all things "spooky." The artists that participated in
The Woods ... Deep impressed and delighted me altogether; their work is expressive, inventive and true to form; I have not complaints about this show nor with the artists and their work. Thomas Bangsted, Anat Betzer, Melanie Daniel, Allison Gildersleeve and Ezra Johnson; my favorites include Thomas Bangsted

Fireflies Pulsing in Some Dark Corner, 2011 and
Where Owls Sleep, 2011, Allison Gildersleeve,
Curve in the Road, 2011, What About Yellow, 2011 and Three Ways, 2011 and last but not least Ezra Johnson,
The Time of Tall Statues (Still), 2009. This show puts you in the mood to watch a scary movie or two,
The Strangers, 2008 or The Shining, 1980 sound about right! See
The Woods before it closes September 10th. -
